MARY O’CALLAGHAN

Mary O’Callaghan, 89, beloved mom of Maureen Harapiak and Cathy Wrolstad, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont. with Cathy and granddaughter, Wendy, at her side.
Mary was born April 23, 1921 in Sleeman, Ont. to William and Queenie Rattigan, the fourth of 11 children.
She attended school in Sleeman and completed high school in Fort Frances. She and her two sisters then moved to Ottawa, Ont. during the war years to work for the federal government.
In 1946, she married Jerry Hagan and had two daughters, Maureen and Cathy.
In 1953, they moved to Atikokan, Ont. and that remained her home until 2008, when she moved to Rainycrest in Fort Frances to be closer to Cathy and her family.
Following the death of Jerry in 1966, she married Allan O’Callaghan and together they enjoyed many years of travelling to the West Coast and camping.
He predeceased her in July, 1995.
Her Catholic faith was an important part of Mary’s life, and she was a long-time member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Atikokan and a life member of the Catholic Women’s League. She also served as a Grey Nun Associate, Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, and Sacristan, as well as visiting the sick.
Mary also was a member of the Pioneer Centre and the Ladies of the Moose in Atikokan.
She is survived by her two daughters, Maureen (Walter) Harapiak and Cathy (Marlow) Wrolstad; grandchildren, Tanys LeBlanc, Tracey and Dylan Putzenberger, Brad and Billie-Jean Harapiak, Todd and Stephanie Wrolstad, and Chad and Wendy Wrolstad; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lindsay, Tennille, Davin, Riley, Taylor, Croy, Kyler, Teagan, Linkin, and Marly.
Also surviving are two brothers, Jack and Eugene Rattigan; four sisters, Claire Eno, Kay Rattigan, Eunice Hayes, and Bernice Olinyk; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Jerry Hagan and Allan O’Callaghan; parents, William and Queenie; brothers, Wilfred, Bud, and Bill; sister, Gladys; and great-grandson, Breckin Wrolstad.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Atikokan, with Fr. Elvis Odoeghbulem officiating.
Cremation has taken place at the Rainy River Crematory, and interment will take place in the Burriss Cemetery alongside her great-grandson, Breckin, at a later date.
The honorary pallbearers will be her family and friends.
