MARY MARGARET WALDBILLING ROCHE STUART

Mary Stuart, 89, of International Falls, Mn., passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006 at the Golden Crest Care Center in Hibbing, Mn.
Mary was born on July 21, 1916 at Algona in Plum Creek Township, Iowa. She lived in Garry, Mn. and Wauban, Mn. before settling in International Falls.
She was united in marriage to John J. Roche on Aug. 31, 1940 at St. Thomas Catholic Church. She then married Charlie Stuart in 1972 at the St. Thomas Rectory.
In 1972, Mary moved to Fort Frances, Ont. and lived there until 2000, when she moved to Plano, Tex. for a short time before returning to International Falls.
During WWII, Mary worked as a welder in the shipyards in Portland, Ore. She also worked as a housekeeper for St. Thomas Catholic Rectory. During the 1950s and ’60s, the family operated a large produce farm at Browns Corner.
She also worked on her brother Edmond’s mink farm.
Mary enjoyed square dancing, crafts, crocheting, and walking. One year she raised the most money for the Terry Fox Run in Canada. She also enjoyed making Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren, gardening, cooking, camping, and fishing.
She was a very devout member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, as well as a member of the Tabernacle Society and Catholic Daughters of America.
Mary had a special place in her heart for children and took in foster children.
She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Margaret (Rodenborn) Waldbillig; husbands, John J. Roche (1953) and Charlie Stuart (2000); daughter, Colleen Gray (1999); brothers, Frank, Eldon, Bernard, and Edmond Waldbillig; sisters, Katherine Geving, Gertrud Caisey, and Pauline Musetta; and stepdaughter, Shirley Stuart (1992).
Mary is survived by her sons, John (Mary) Roche of International Falls, Mn. and Kevin (Karen) Roche of Virginia, Mn.; daughter, Kathy (Gary) Bergmann of Lake Dallas, Tex.; stepson, Allan (Donnas) Stuart of Thunder Bay, Ont.
She also is survived by 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial services on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 1:30 p.m.
