Mary Lorraine Kuharski, 90, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2011 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Mary was born March 31, 1920 in Minneapolis, Mn. to the late Francis and Rose Willis. Mary moved to Emo, Ont. from Minneapolis in 1920 at the age of six months.
In 1941, she was united in marriage to John Kuharski. During the early 1940s, the family moved to Fort Frances, where they raised their family.
Mary was a longtime resident of Fort Frances, and was a member of both St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and the C.W.L. She also was a member of the Grey Nun Society and helped out during weekly masses at Rainycrest.
Mary was a kind and caring person who always was willing to lend a hand. She loved gardening in summers, and knitting and sewing for her family and friends.
Mary will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Kuharski, in 1993; six brothers, Gordon, Robert, George, John, Bill, and James; and two sisters, Audrey and Dorothy.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Ronald Kuharski of Fort Frances, Ont. and Thomas (Pat) Kuharski of Brampton, Ont.; four daughters, Marilyn (Brian) Dowson of Burlington, Ont., Carol (Alan) Boivin of Fort Frances, Ont., Lorraine (Gordon) Robinson of Dryden, Ont., and Sandra (Allan) Blanchard of Red Lake, Ont.; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one sister, Shirley Morphet of Montreal, Que.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances.
Fr. Jose Edessary will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends and family may visit Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
The pallbearers will be Mary’s grandsons, Curtis Boivin, John Kuharski, Michael Roy, Darren Callewaert, Brian Callewaert, Steven Blanchard, and William Blanchard.
The honourary pallbearers will be Mary’s granddaughters, Tammie Roy, Rene Boivin, Joanne Dowson, Janice Munro, Jean Allan, Teresa Dykin, Alana Blanchard, Katie Kuharski,
Amy Persaud, and Sheri Anne Callewaert.
