MARY ILIEN GOULIQUER

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary I. Gouliquer, 87, of Emo, Ont., and formerly of Arbor Vitae, Ont., announces the sudden passing of our beloved mother on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Mary was born Nov. 28, 1922 in Dearlock, Ont. to Ervin and Katie Strom. She was the eldest of 11 children.
Mary was raised on the homestead, and helped raise her younger siblings.
As a teenager, she moved to Sioux Lookout, Ont. to take a job working at the CNR Beanery. It wasn’t long after that she met and married her love and best friend, Peter James Gouliquer, and together they had five children, Erwin, Orval, Cathy, Terry, and Alvina.
Mary lost her best friend and husband, Pete, in August of 1954 in an accident in the front yard of their home in Arbor Vitae, leaving her to raise their five children alone.
She remained at the family home until three years ago, when she moved to Emo.
Mary was very proud of her family whom she loved most dearly, especially her grandchildren. She kept a very close bond with all her siblings all her life.
She will be fondly remembered by many for her pleasant nature, being a very good cook, especially her ham and pineapple, date cakes, blueberry rolls, and her specialty, venison pot roast.
You always could count on getting a birthday, Christmas, or anniversary card from Mary.
Mary will be sadly missed by her children, Erwin of Emo, Ont., Orval (Linda) of Ignace, Ont., Cathy (Ben) Brown of Pinewood, Ont., Terry (Glenda) of Emo, Ont., and Alvina (Nelson) Brown of Stratton; her grandchildren, Trevor, Cheryl, Tieshia, Natalie, Tron, Troy, Sharla, Michelle, Stacey, Tammy, Shane, and Kristina; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her sisters, Edith Seguin, Alvina Zuke, Eleanor (Karl) Pikov, and Iona (Ray) Fillion; brother, Leonard (Donna) Strom; and sisters–in-law, Violet Strom, Irene Landry, Stella Huntley, Georgette Gouliquer, and Marie Komeransky; and brothers-in-law, Hector Gouliquer, Bob (Olive) Gouliquer, Gerald (Mary) Gouliquer, and Ray Muth.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Pete; her parents, Ervin and Katie Strom; special friend, Julius Zeolkowski; brothers, Edward, Benny, and Everett Strom; sisters, Margaret Adams and Murla Muth; in-laws, Joseph and Mary Ann Gouliquer, and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Art (Madeline) Gouliquer, Tony (Rose) Gouliquer, Theodore “Dee Dee” Gouliquer, Hector Landry, Theo Seguin, Frank Huntley, Les Adams, and Marlene Gouliquer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, with Rev. George Chojko-Bolec officiating.
Reception followed at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo.
Interment took place in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River, Ont.
The pallbearers were Alvin McClain, Cornie Fehr, Doug Kreger, Glen Strom, Jason Strom, and Tim Gouliquer.
The honourary pallbearers were Mary’s grandchildren.
