MARY CHURICK

Mary Churick of 825 Smith Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away in her 93rd year on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Mary was born on Dec. 3, 1908 at the family homestead in Pine Ridge, Man., the third child of Joseph and Katherine Sitarz. On Nov. 15, 1926 she was united in marriage to karl Churick and moved to Rainy Lake, Ont., where Karl worked as a sawyer at the J.A. Mathieu Sawmill.
Mary lived all her adult life in Fort Frances, Ontario. Throughout her life journey, Mary faced many hardships and challenges; she met them all head on with great strength and courage. She respected family, faith and tradition values. Mary spent countless happy hours working in her garden, and enjoyed eating her raspberries right up to this summer. She was a talented dressmaker and a great cook, her specialties were borscht and holupchi.
Mary was a friendly and caring person, always thinking of others first. In later years, her sole reason for living was her only grandson, Bill, whom she loved very much. She taught him many things and gave him an appreciation for his Ukrainian heritage and culture.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Patricia Crewson, of Fort Frances, Ont.; her beloved grandson, William “Bill” Crewson, of London, Ont.; and “my Laurie”, Laurie Cole of Fort Frances, Ont., with whom she shared life stories and laughter. Also surviving is her sister, Annie (Mike) Sokal of springfield, Man.; sisters-in-law, Nellie (Frank) Sitarz of Pine Ridge, Man., Kay (John) Sitarz of Windsor, Ont., and Doris (Mike) Sitarz of Winnipeg, Man.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her son, William Stanley Churick, on Oct. 27, 1966, and dearest sisters and brothers, Antonette, Kathleen, Frank, Stanley, John and Mike.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont. Envoys Eric and Sylvia Alcock of the Salvation Army will officiate with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ont.
Friends may visit Monday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. Scripture readings will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
The pallbearers will be her grandson Bill Crewson, Bob Gillon, Pete Moen, and Frank Maraj.
The honourary pallbearers will be Anne Eustace, Vicky Martel, Ted Stainke, Marge and Richard Atkinson, Louella Katona and Cecile Asselin.
