Mary (Farlinger) Ans is free from the grip of Alzheimer’s disease. She passed away peacefully in her 80th year at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances Ont. on Wednesday, May 13, 1998.
Mary was the loving wife and best friend of Jim, who passed away Oct. 17, 1967.
She will be affectionately remembered by her children, Sue in Barrie, Elizabeth in Ottawa, Debra (Eric) in Germany, and Michael (Karla) in Devlin; grandchildren, Tracy and Jamie in Barrie, Leigh, Dan, and Darcy of Thunder Bay, Lucas and Susanna in Uffing, Germany, and Joshua, Renae, Mary Grace, John, Estella, and Patience in Devlin; and great-granddaughter, Alyssa in Barrie.
Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Bernice and Gretchen; brothers, Sid and Ernie; as well as her infant granddaughter, Hosanna.
She will be remembered by those she touched in a special way through her involvement within the Sioux Lookout community–the many years devoted to organizing, developing, and maintaining the Sarah Vaughan Memorial Library, the incredible baked goods she provided for the snack bar at the old curling rink, and her years of volunteer involvement with the United Church.
As a bookkeeper at the General Hospital and the Pelican Lake Marina, she acquired many friends, associates, and fond memories. As owner of Sunset Lodge and Camps, she continued to make her mark as a culinary genius, as a business manager, and as an outdoor enthusiast.
As well, she thoroughly enjoyed being secretary of the Chamber of Commerce for several years.
Mary will be remembered at a memorial service planned for weekend of June 20-21 in Sioux Lookout, Ont.
It would be very much appreciated if donations could be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in lieu of flowers.
