The family of Marvel Ricard sadly announces her passing on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the age of 88.
Marvel was born Oct. 23, 1925 in Fort Frances, Ont. to August and Macey Mertens.
On Oct. 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to her lifelong love, Ric, with whom she shared 60 precious years.
Our mother was a wonderful cook. She will be remembered by many for her marvel-ous baking, especially her famous cinnamon buns and butter tarts, which she lovingly shared with family and friends.
Marvel also was a very talented stitcher, creating many beautiful works of needlepoint, crochet, and knitting.
Marvel’s greatest joy was her family. She lived for and loved the daily visits and phone calls from her children and grandchildren, who all will miss her dearly.
Marvel is survived by four daughters, Rochelle (Al Kennett), Cheryl Matus, Rose (Tom Kantos), and Julie (Stan Tinkess); and two sons, Rick (Heather) and Lorne (Maureen).
Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Brad (Kris), Kelly (Scott), Andrew (Jessica), Liane (Chris), Paula (Mike), Patti (Ken), Terri (Shaunn), Clint (Jeanna), Alyson (Aram), Rick (Dayna), Nicole (Bryon), and Rick (Kim); and 19 great grandchildren.
Marvel also leaves her younger brother, Jack Mertens and wife, Maureen; and her nieces, Nancy Lockman, Nyla Henry, and Noreen Melville.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; her parents; sister, Joyce Wolden/Asplund; and niece, Nadine Rickards.
A memorial mass will take place Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Victor De Gagne as celebrant.
The honorary pallbearers will be all of Marvel’s grandchildren.
