MARTIN HAROLD CLARENCE TIBBS

Tibbs, Martin

It is with great sorrow that the family of Martin Tibbs announces his peaceful passing on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 at home.
He was born on April 10, 1941 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Harold and Anna-Claire Tibbs.
He grew up in Fort Frances and with the encouragement of his mother, a piano teacher, found a passion for music. This passion followed him all through his life, from starting “The Rockers” in high school to attending the University of North Dakota, playing hockey, studying to become a music teacher and then later as Marty and The Masters, played numerous events and weddings in the area.
He was united in marriage to Sharon Carter on April 7, 1962 and they settled down in Fort Frances. With their first child on the way, he decided to pursue a career at the local paper mill. He was fond of telling his family that he went to the hiring office every day to ask about a job.
Perhaps it was his persistence or perhaps his charm but either way, he was proud to come home one day with the title of paper maker.
He worked in the mill, in various departments, prior to becoming a pipefitter, the position he held at his retirement of 35 years.
Marty was very social and loved to talk with friends and family. After retirement, he took up curling and golf but his favourite pastime was the time he spent at “Nowhere Island” with his family. He loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He spent endless hours with them, teaching and sharing his passions with each of them.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Anna-Claire; wife, Sharon; and sister, Lynne VanRooyen (Adrian).
Marty leaves behind his son, Dean and wife, Colleen; daughters, Sandra Tibbs (Josie) and Barbara Stainke; grandchildren, Riley, Sam, Claire, and Connor Tibbs, and Emma and Harrison Stainke; brothers, Raymond and Thomas Tibbs; sister Lenne (Anne) Klopfer and her husband, Ken; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Alan Albao.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held.
The pallbearers will be Gene Andrusco, Bob Hamilton, Al Andrusco, Ray Armit, Roger Dolyny, and Don Halling.
The honourary pallbearers will be Riley Tibbs, Sam Tibbs, Claire Tibbs, Connor Tibbs, Emma Stainke, and Harrison Stainke.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation c/o Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
