Marlene Mae Wood (nee Jewett) of Atikokan, ON, passed away peacefully at the Atikokan General Hospital on Nov. 12, 2014.
Marlene was born June 29, 1938 in Rainy River, ON. She was the eldest of nine children.
Marlene is survived by her four children, son, Rolie (Heather) Wood of Merritt, B.C.; daughter, Becky (Kreg) Groulx of Atikokan, ON; son, Wayne (Janice) Wood of Edmonton, AB, and son, Steven (Valerie) Wood of Saanich, B.C.
She is also survived by her three brothers, Norman (Donna) Jewett, Ernie Jewett, and Paul (Carolyn) Jewett; three sisters, Sharon (Bert) LeFlock, Carol Pollard, Marjorie (Howard) Haw; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Clinton in 2006, parents Genevieve and Lyle Jewett, brothers Ronald and Murray Jewett, daughter Charlotte and son-in-law Randy Nicholas, and granddaughter Jennifer Wood.
Marlene and Clint were married in 1956 in Fort Frances, ON. They moved to Atikokan in 1972, and then moved out west in 1978. They moved back to retire in Atikokan after 20 years of living in Logan Lake, B.C.
Marlene loved country music, and would sing, dance and play guitar endlessly for family and friends to enjoy. She was happiest when cooking big meals for everyone.
She was also an avid volunteer and member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
In 1970 she received her Practical Nursing Diploma and cared for people at both the new and old Atikokan hospitals. She went on to provide Home Care for many of the elderly also when she lived in Logan Lake.
All of her life, Marlene enjoyed caring for others and made many friends along the way. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Atikokan Royal Canadian Legion.
