Marlene Hayes, 69, of Off Lake, Ont., passed away peacefully, with her husband, Jim, at her side, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont.
Marlene was born on Nov. 17, 1946 in Emo to Duncan and Hilda Magill.
Marlene married Jim Hayes on March 25, 1969.
Through the years, Jim and Marlene owned and operated two fishing resorts, Pipestone Lodge on Pipestone Lake and Lost Island Lodge on Lac Seul. During those years, Marlene ran the kitchen, where she carefully prepared homemade meals for their guests.
When reminiscing about the past, she always laughed about the mountain of potatoes she peeled over the years.
In 2003, Jim and Marlene retired to their home on Off Lake, where Marlene enjoyed tending to her garden, spending time with family and friends, and fussing over her beloved little dog, “Abby.”
Marlene also enjoyed trips to the cabin on Pipestone Lake, where she loved to sit on the deck in the evenings listening to the loons and watching the sun go down.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Jim; daughters, Tracey Roen and Michelle Gaffney (John); and grandchildren, TJ, Jessica, and Julia Roen, and James and Jack Gaffney.
She also is survived by her brothers, Gary Magill (Helen) and Doug Magill; brothers-in-law, Brad Hayes and Shane (Chris); along with many loved nieces and nephews.
Marlene was predeceased by her parents, Duncan and Hilda Magill; grandson, Jason Roen; and father- and mother-in-law, James and Marjorie Hayes.
Rather than a funeral, the family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Emo Health Centre c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
