Marlene Deschamps, 77, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 with her family by her side.
Marlene was predeceased by parents, Anne and Phil Deschamps; granddaughter, Nicole Veillieux; foster sister, Celeste Beck; grandparents on both the Deschamps and Schuchard sides of the family; aunts and uncles on both sides of the family; cousins; and some very dear friends.
Marlene is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Sarah and Kenny); son, John (Susie Veilllieux); and son, Ron, and wife, Barb (Ashley, Cody, Brandi, Brittany, Joshua, and Mitchell).
She also is survived by her brothers, John (Jay and Wendy and family and Janeen), Bernard and Sharon (Michael, Shawna, Monique, and Shannon and their spouses and children), and Ronald and Judy (Garnet and Ryan and their spouses and children); and sisters, Pam and Jim Pitmon (Lindsey and Brady and their spouses and children) and Patricia and Dan Guerton (Stacey and Jason, and Dusty and Matt and their spouses and children).
Also surviving are aunts and many cousins; godchild, Lorrayne Muloin; and special friends, Joyce, Georgine, and Lennie.
A graduate of Fort Frances High School, Marlene went on to earn an Honours degree from Rainy River Community College in International Falls, Mn.
She was a very active community member during her lifetime. She belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary Br. #29, the Rainycrest Auxiliary, the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary, and the Fort Frances Lions Club.
Marlene also was a member of the group dedicated to saving the old CN station. It was a team accomplishment she was very proud of.
She was equally proud of participating in the effort to establish safe homes on two separate occasions, providing a direct impact on the lives of local women.
A celebration of life for Marlene was held Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances
