MARK (MIKE) KOWALCHUK

It is with great sorrow that the family of Mark (Mike) Kowalchuk, 87, announces his passing on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont.
Mike was born Feb. 1, 1919 in Teulon, Man. to Peter and Katherine Kowalchuk. He served overseas during WW II in the Air Force Coastal Command.
Following his discharge, he returned to Fort Frances, taking employment with the local paper mill. Mike retired after 45 years in 1982 as a mechanical supervisor.
On July 28, 1943, he married Sadie Ossachuk. Mike also was a member of the St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
He leaves behind his wife, Sadie; children, Linda and husband, Al Rajala, and Mark Kowalchuk and wife, Donna, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Rajala, and Lesley, Patrick, and Michael Kowalchuk; sister, Mary Pawlick of Hamilton, Ont.; sister-in-law, June Kowalchuk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Katherine; brother, John; and brother-in-law, John Pawlick.
Friends may visit Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Fr. Oleg Krawchenko will officiate, followed by interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Patrick Kowalchuk, Michael Kowalchuk, Jeffrey Rajala, Chris Duchnicki, Tom Duchnicki, and Paul Dolyny.
The honourary pallbearers will be his Thursday Coffee Gang.
