October 18, 1930 – Fort Frances, Ontario
May 15, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Marion was born October 18, 1930, in Fort Frances, Ont., to George and Lena Kowaluk. She was the younger sister to Shirley.
Marion’s family moved to New Westminster, B.C., where she spent her childhood and teenage years.
In 1951, a young man visited B.C. and met Marion. Out on a date, Marion asked Ernie “a penny for your thoughts” and Ernie presented Marion with an engagement ring. The two married in 1952 and made their life and home in Fort Frances.
Marion left Fort Frances in 2013, to live with her daughter in Yellowknife, N.W.T. She enjoyed the North’s musical concerts, Ukrainian Christmas celebrations, winter festivals, and farmer’s markets.
Marion’s’ favourite pastime was shopping. After a family move to Calgary, Alta., in 2015, she was able to pursue that interest with renewed vigour.
Marion is survived by her daughter Wendy; her grandson Leyland (Danielle); and great-grandchildren Wyatt, and Olive. She is also survived by her nephew Greg Large (Lenanne).
She is predeceased by her husband Ernest, of 45 years; her sister Shirley Kowaluk; and her son-in-law David McPherson.
A memorial service is planned to be held in Fort Frances, Ont., at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
