It is with great sorrow that the family of Marilyn Shine, 70, of 851 Colonization Rd. W., Fort Frances, Ont., announces her sudden passing on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at her residence.
Marilyn was born Oct. 8, 1940 in Fort Frances to the late Harry and Muriel Cooper. Marilyn grew up in Fort Frances and later worked at the McIrvine grocery store in the west end.
On October 17, 1959, she was united in marriage to Leonard Shine.
Along with raising her family, Marilyn also worked as a caretaker at the TD Bank for many years until her retirement.
Marilyn loved swimming at the pool and socializing with her friends there. She was always on the move, whether in the water, rocking in a chair, swinging on a swing, or playing cards with her neighbours.
She was well-known for her buns, especially her cinnamon buns, and for the occasional stiff drink.
Marilyn loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much and enjoyed having lunches with them. The dogs were always looked after, too, as she always had a treat for them; no one went without.
Family and friends will forever miss her sense of humour and burst of laughter, and will remember her “tell you how it is” attitude.
Marilyn will be missed very deeply by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Muriel and Harry Cooper; and one nephew, Sheldon Mosbeck.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Leonard Shine of Fort Frances, Ont.; daughter, Patti and husband, Mark LaFleur, of Devlin, Ont., and son, Larry Shine and wife, Kari, of Dryden, Ont.; five grandchildren, Andrea and husband, Travis Kennett, Jeff LaFleur and wife, Amy, Kim LaFleur and friend, Matt, and Joshua and Ashley Shine; and four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Derek, Tyler, and Presley.
Also surviving are two brothers, Rick Cooper and wife, Myrna, and Dale Cooper and wife, Mary, and sister Karen Mosbeck and husband, Cecil, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; nieces and nephews, Christopher and Jennifer Cooper, Mark and Chad Buist, Neil and John Cooper, and Barry and Duff Mosbeck; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Cremation has taken place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Mn.
A come-and-go tea to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. at the Devlin Hall in Devlin.
