It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing of Marie MacKinnon on July 19, 2000 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Marie was born on April 19, 1962 to Minard and Evelyn Whalen of Stratton, Ont. She attended Stratton separate school and graduated from Rainy River High school in 1980.
She worked at the Port Arthur Clinic for several years before moving to the Northwestern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre where she worked until her passing.
She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Ray and sons Turner and Spencer. They were the centre of her life, and being with them brought her immense joy. She also leaves to mourn her mother Evelyn Whalen of Stratton; sisters, Patricia Whalen of Thunder Bay, June (Aurel) Nault of Gunton, Man., and Dianne (Rick) Deschamps of Dryden, Ont.; brothers, Jerry (Brenda), Lorne (Vicky), Lance (Susan) and Ken (Debbie) all of Fort Frances, Ont., and Dennis (Brenda) of Nestor Falls, Ont.; sister-in-law, Thelma McGolrick (Bert) of Richmond, B.C. as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her father, Minard Whalen in 1982, nephew Paul Whalen in 1982 , mother-in-law, Stella MacKinnon and brother-in-law, Alan MacKinnon.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 24 at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Thunder Bay. Pallbearers were nephews Billy Whalen, Bob Whalen, Allan Nault, Lennie Nault, Justin Whalen and niece, Jocelyn McGolrick.
Marie was a very kind and gentle person with the ability to light up a room with her smile. The loss we feel is great but her memory will stay bright, and live on in our hearts and in our minds.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in care of the MacKinnon Education Fund, Toronto Dominion Bank, 231 River Road, Thunder Bay, Ont.
