It is with great sadness that the family of Maria Kupila, who resided at Dawson Court in Thunder Bay, Ont., passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, July 12, 2002—one month before her 101st birthday.
Grandma was born in Evijaren, Finland and immigrated to Canada with her husband, Charles, in 1923. They settled in Fort Frances, Ont., and later moved to Thunder Bay in 1956.
Grandma was always busy selling her handiwork like sewing and gardening. She was a shrewd business lady and carried this on throughout her life, often giving advice to her grandson, Miles, over the years.
Her greatest pride was always her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 1984; daughter-in-law, Thelma, in 1991; and son, Sulo, in 1993.
She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Wendall of Calgary, Alta., and (Bonnie) of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Miles (Becky) of Devlin, Ont.; along with great-grandchildren, Dustin, Cheryl (Chris), Stephanie, Nick, and Alyssa.
Also surviving are nieces, Raili Pietila of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Corrina Roy of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous family throughout Canada and Finland.
We will rejoice in Grandma’s life at a memorial service to be held at Dawson Court in Thunder Bay on Thursday, July 18, 2002.
A private interment to be held at a later date.
Grandma was a strong soul in life ’til the end and will be forever in our hearts even in death.
In memoriam donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
