Margaret Grace Rahn (nee Canfield) passed away at home, with her family, on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 in Nanaimo, B.C.
Margaret was born on Aug. 21, 1920 on the family farm north of Barwick, Ont. to pioneering homesteaders Jennie and Willard Canfield. She lived most of her 96 years on the same land where she was born, then moved to Fort Frances, Ont. and finally to Nanaimo to become a “BC Nut!”
Margaret was married to Jack Rahn on Oct. 1, 1941 in Truro, N.S., where he was stationed during WWII. They had two children, Lyndawn and Peggyann.
After the war, Margaret and Jack worked hard to build and maintain the “Spruce Shadow Farm.” They were strong believers in community, teaching 4-H and owning and operating the Blackhawk Hall, and also were avid square dancers.
Margret continued to enjoy dancing well into her 90s. She also was a lifetime member of the Women’s Institute.
Margaret was an enthusiastic and energetic person, always busy helping others, attending meetings, and visiting family and friends. She loved to travel, to see new sights, and to connect with others.
She will be remembered as someone who loved life and lived it to the fullest.
She was dedicated to always make every effort to keep in touch with the many people she knew and connected with. Margaret’s Amway business provided her opportunities to travel, develop lasting friendships, and show her dedication to what she believed in.
Margaret loved her family, always ready to share pictures of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even one great-great grandchild.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family, sister, Helen Haney; daughter, Peggy; grandchildren, Cheri, Leisa, and Pat, Jonathan, Emily and J.P, and Aleesha; great-grandchildren, Cherstin and Jonny, Mason and Jessica, and Liam, Tomas, and Aislyn; and great-great-granddaughter, Ember.
She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Gosbee and her aunt, Leona Gillies; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
When you think of Margret, remember: “Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.”
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont.
