MARGARET BEATTIE CALDER

Margaret Beattie Calder, 86, of Fort Frances, Ont. passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 at her residence.
Margaret was born Sept. 4, 1912 in Rainy River, Ont. to the late George and Mary Jane Sinclair. She was raised in Rainy River and on June 4, 1930, was united in marriage to Peter “Lute” Calder and together they settled in Fort Frances.
She was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church and enjoyed singing and praising her Lord. She also enjoyed many happy years with Lute. Together they made their home in Alexandria Bay on Rainy Lake, where Lute was a commercial fisherman. Margaret was a camp cook for many years, having worked in some local tourist resorts.
She also cooked for generations of families within the surrounding community of Alexandria Bay, and provided a unique service for them as she would travel with Lute by boat back and forth daily to make their family vacations enjoyable and memorable.
The friends that she made throughout these years were still very dear to her, and it would bring a smile to her face when she heard from them or when they dropped by to see her.
She loved to be around her family and in her home. Nora, Lou, and Minnie made this possible by their patient effort to make her comfortable at her home until her passing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter “Lute” Calder (Nov. 19, 1994); granddaughter, Luanne Lee; great-grandson, Frederick Peter Crowe; great-granddaughter, Whitney Ann Marvel Crowe; four sisters, Annie Fadden, Mabel Calder, Jemima Whitefield, and Mary Lyons; three brothers, Joe, Bill, and Duncan Sinclair; and two sons-in-law, Harold Klyne and Wallace Crowe.
