“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always.
“As long as I’m living, my mother you’ll be.”
R. Munsch
With her family by her side, Margaret Baird passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at the age of 90.
She was born Jan. 2, 1923 in Wilcox, Sask. to John and Barbara Brehm.
She arrived in Fort Frances, Ont. with her parents during the Depression years and except for a few years spent in the U.S. during World War II, she had lived most of her adult years here.
She lived a full life with many challenges that she met head-on and with a spirit unparalleled by many. Her infectious laugh could be heard everywhere she went and certainly will be remembered as one of her finest features.
In fact, she still had that laugh right up to the end although Alzheimer’s had robbed her of almost everything else.
She possessed many coveted attributes. She was someone you could count on to lend a helping hand where needed. When she lived at Flinder’s, many of her neighbours would call and she would drive them for groceries or stay with them to be of comfort.
No one was a stranger to her; she would carry on a conversation with anyone and laugh with everyone. She gave advice when we called but didn’t interfere.
She was a great baker and anyone who had her cinnamon buns or wonderful pies can attest to that. She also loved to garden and had a green thumb—she could revive almost any plant.
Besides raising a family, Marg worked at a variety of jobs around town. She was a cook at the A&W for many years, as well as working in the hospital in housekeeping, laundry, and the kitchen.
She even was a cook at a fly-in fishing camp.
In her later years, she did some housekeeping for friends just to keep busy.
She is survived by her sister, Agnes Koepke, 93; and her eight children, Ronald (Katie) Sisco, Hugh Sisco, and Gordon (Bev) Sisco, and Patricia (Tom) Hendrey, Robert (Cheryl) Baird, Douglas (Leslie) Baird, John Baird, and Donald Baird.
She also is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She loved them all and will dearly be missed.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In memoriam donations may be made to Rainycrest Long-Term Care, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3T2 or the Alzheimer’s Society, P.O. Box 837, Kenora, Ont., P9N 4B5.
