Mamie Permelia Ogden passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, at the age of 78, on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Mamie was born March 20, 1938 to Wesley and Ida Ogden.
She was a sister to David Ogden of Atikokan, Ont., Lawrence Ogden of Burlington, Ont., and Cecil Ogden (Thelma) of Emo, Ont.; and sister-in-law to Pat Ogden and Ted Corrigan.
She also will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends and neighbours.
Mamie was predeceased by her parents, Wesley and Ida Ogden; brother, Alexander; sister, Jean; and sisters-in-law, Carol and Edith.
Mamie was born and raised in the Emo area on her parents’ farm south of town. She attended the Aylsworth and Lash public schools and was a graduate of Fort Frances High School.
Shortly after graduation, she began a 35-year career as an elementary school teacher that included positions at Mather 8, Ear Falls, Mather and Potts, and Sturgeon Creek elementary schools.
In 1958-59, she attended teachers’ college in North Bay, Ont., where she obtained the teaching certificate required of all teachers.
Mamie made considerable efforts to keep herself physically fit and enjoyed a number of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, playing fastball, snowmobiling, and curling as her top highlights in her younger years.
Over time, she became more avid in her retirement and could be found playing a fun-loving game of golf, cycling, walking, cross-country skiing, bicycling, gardening, and enjoying rides on her scooter.
If not outdoors, Mamie could be found with nieces or nephews doing crafts, various art projects, or canning her garden’s bounty. She had a keen sense of humour, as well as a compassionate heart for anyone or any creature in need.
God has walked with our beloved Mamie and we could ask for nothing more.
A time of remembrance for family and friends will be held Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont.
As per Mamie’s request, cremation has taken place, followed by a private interment in the Emo Cemetery.
