Mamie’s father, Ira Dobbs Sr., bought a farm north of Emo, Ont. in 1915 and here her wedding to Francis (Frank) Cain took place Sept. 15, 1920. They later purchased the farm and lived there until 1950, when the farmhouse burned and they moved to Emo.
They lived there until September, 1973, when she moved to Atikokan to be with her daughter, Ila Gibson.
Mamie had worked as a part-time cook at the Highway Cafe in Emo in the 1950s, as a cook at Vernon Armstrong’s Tourist and Logging Camps during the 1960s, and as head cook at the Emo Red Cross Hospital from 1960 to 1968. She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Emo, and later the First Baptist Church in Atikokan.
She enjoyed gardening and crocheting but most of her pleasure in life centered around family activities.
