With great sadness, the family of Mae Diann Widgren, 66, announces her sudden passing on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at her residence in Nestor Falls, Ont.
Diann was born July 26, 1949 to Bing and Naomi Bonham of Indianapolis, Ind.
Diann grew up in Indianapolis, where she attended elementary, high school, and university. Diann graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in accounting and worked at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis—School of Dentistry for a number of years as an accounts manager.
Diann also had a passion for antiques, which led to her becoming an antique dealer and shop owner.
In 1993, Diann met and married Wayne Widgren of Nestor Falls. After they were married, Diann relocated to Canada, where she and Wayne spent many years owning and operating tourist camps on Lake of the Woods.
Diann loved to cook for camp guests, and often was regarded for her wonderful meals and warm hospitality.
Diann loved people and enjoyed playing cards with friends whenever she had a chance. She was a very giving person and enjoyed spending time with her son, step-children, and grandchildren.
Family was very important to Diann and she often spoke fondly of her parents, son, and extended family. She also had a soft spot for animals and was known for her love of cats.
During the past number of years, Diann fought a hard battle with health issues. Through her strong faith in the Lord and support from her family, she remained determined and positive.
Diann is survived by her husband of 23 years, Wayne, of Nestor Falls, Ont.; son, Casey Hirt (Kristy) of Sevierville, Tenn.; step-daughter, Debra Widgren of Nestor Falls, Ont. and step-son, Trevor Widgren of Kenora, Ont.; grandchildren, Justin Hirt (Alisha), Andy Hirt, Nicholas Sloan, and Ava Sloan; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Emmett Hirt.
Diann also is survived by her brother, Terry Bonham (Kay) of Greenwood, Ind.; nephew, Mark Bonham of Chicago, Ill.; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Cheryl Bodnar (Tony) of Fort Frances, Ont., Elaine Bercher (Tom) of Brainard, Mn., Stan Cottam of Nestor Falls, Ont., Roger Widgren of Nestor Falls, Ont., and Karla Widgren of Toronto, Ont.
Diann was predeceased by her parents, Bing and Naomi Bonham; in-laws, Telford and Evelyn Widgren; sister-in-law, Judy Cottam; and brother-in-law, Paul Bodnar.
As per Diann’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
