MADONNA MARIE MORRISH

Madonna Marie Morrish (nee Dumeney), of Princess Court in Dryden, Ont., passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 20, 2014.
Madonna, or Donna as she was more readily known, was born July 16, 1916 in Superior, Wis. to Alfred Joseph Dumeney and Aurilla Josephine King Dumeney. She was the fifth of 12 children.
At the age of three, her family moved to Fort Frances, Ont. and then on to Mine Centre, Ont., where she grew up and attended school.
She also met and married Dad, Reginald George Woodford Morrish, and together they raised five children.
She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years in 2003; four sisters and six brothers; an infant son, Joseph; a grandson, Daniel Jeffrey; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Morrish.
Donna worked at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances for 16 years as a nursery nurse, seeing several of her grandchildren come into this world.
She was a great influence and role model when she got her nurses’ cap in 1970 at the age of 54.
Her daughters and several grandchildren have gone on to higher education, following her example.
She is survived by her children, Rheta Jeffery (Len), Thomas (Shirley), Robert (Jackie), Aurilla MacDonald (Brian), and Helen (Linda); 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sister, Clora McEvoy; sister-in-law, Renee Dumeney; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Emo, Ont.
Fr. Alan Albao officiated, with interment following in the Burriss Cemetery.
