Madeline Jordbro, 86, of 851 Colonization Rd. W., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
She was born Sept. 15, 1922 in Brantford, Ont. to the late Jack and Jessie McGinnis.
Madeline grew up in Brantford and later met Bud Jordbro in 1942, where she was working in a bomber aircraft factory. On June 24,1944, she was united in marriage to Bud and later, in 1954, they moved to Fort Frances.
Madeline enjoyed many happy times fishing and camping on Rainy Lake. At home, she loved spending time cooking, gardening, and reaping the fruits of her labour by canning.
The family moved to Nanaimo, B.C. in the summer of 1970, where they resided for 20 years enjoying all the pleasures of Vancouver Island. Madeline especially loved camping on Longbeach with friends, family, and her two grandchildren, Montica and Melanie Kowaluk.
In 1990, they returned to Fort Frances, where she enjoyed having company and being surrounded by family and friends. Her pride and joy was her grandson, Ethan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bud; one son, Jim Jordbro; one foster son, Nick Kowaluk; and one brother, William McGinnis.
Madeline will be sadly missed by her son, John Jordbro and wife, Shelley, and their son, Ethan, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; and one brother, Jack McGinnis and wife, Barb, of Brantford, Ont.
She also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Lillian and husband, Bill McLean, of Saskatoon, Sask., Fred Crowley and wife, Joan, of Ancastor, Ont., Nellie-Jean Jordbro of Simcoe, Ont., and Geraldine and husband, Johnny Wilton, of Saskatoon, Sask.; two grandchildren, Montica and husband, Bruce Lesperance, and Melanie Kowaluk; two great-grandchildren, Kasia and Melia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Mn.
A memorial service to celebrate Madeline’s life will be held Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances, with Pastor Brian Keffer officiating.
The honourary pallbearers will be her grandson, Ethan; special friends, Blayne and Irene Orr; and all of her friends from Flinders Place.
