MABEL EVA DAVIS-DICK

Mabel Dick, 95, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances, Ont., went home to be with her Lord, with her daughter by her side, on Sunday, April 11, 1999 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Mabel was born Oct. 6, 1903 in Handswoorth, England to the late John and Amy Watkins. In 1905, she moved with her family to Canada and settled in Swan River, Man.
On Jan. 1, 1928, Mabel was united in marriage in Swan River to Andrew Davis and later that year they moved to Fort Frances.
Mabel worked for many years at Rainycrest Home for the Aged, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Sister Kennedy senior citizens’ group, a member of the local Rebekah’s Lodge for more than 60 years, and a very active member of Calvary Tabernacle.
Following the passing of her first husband in 1965, Mabel later remarried May 29, 1971 to John Dick.
She enjoyed knitting, volunteering at the senior centre, and serving wherever she could in the church. She also loved children and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Andrew Davis; second husband, John Dick (May, 1982); two stepsons, Wesley Davis and William Davis; two brothers, Jack and Bill; and three sisters, Katie, Jennie, and Amy.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Phyllis and husband, Bob VanDrunen, of Winnipeg, Man.; two sons, Kenneth Davis and wife, Dorothy, of Abbotsford, B.C., and Edward Davis and wife, Marjorie, of Cobourg, Ont.; three stepsons, John Dick Jr., Irvine Dick and wife, Mavis, all of Fort Frances, Ont., and Roy Dick and wife, Reta, of British Columbia; three stepdaughters, Susie and husband, Charles Canfield, of Fort Frances, Ont., Evelyn Supplier of Minneapolis, Mn., and Jean Cooper of Thunder Bay, Ont.; seven grandchildren and several step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Tabernacle in Fort Frances. Pastor Stephen Laing officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers were Roy Burrell, Roy Davis, Harold Dennis, Ben VanDrunen, John Dick Jr., and Charles Canfield.
