Lyle James Elliott, 81, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances.
He was born March 14, 1934 in Chapple, Ont. to Chesley and Dorothy Elliott. He was one of 12 children.
As a young man, Lyle discovered a love of cooking. He worked for various businesses in the district, including cooking on The Hallett for Mando.
After retiring, he settled in Emo, spending time at the Golden Age Manor. He enjoyed spending time with his neighbours and helping them by picking up mail, medication, and anything else they needed.
He was very proud to have received the Citizen of the Year award during this time.
Lyle leaves behind his daughter, Brenda (Rick) Anderson of Dugald, Man. and Lois (Larry) King of Fort Frances, Ont.; five grandchildren, Richard and Ryan Anderson, and Reggie, Gina, and Donald King; and eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his siblings, Josie Dyck, Denise (Dwight) Becker, Cecil (Maxine) Elliott, Darlyne (Stu) Bruce, Norma Galusha, Herb (Marvel) Elliott, Judy Kaemingh, and Oscar (Darlene) Elliott; uncle, Melvin Clark; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Larry; siblings, Lawrence, George, and Allan Elliott; brothers-in-law, Arnold Kaemingh, Gill McKechnie, John Dyck, John Wolff, and George Meyers; and sister-in-law, Irene Elliott.
Lyle also was predeceased by a special aunt, Reta Clark, who helped raise the Elliott children; as well as aunts, Phyllis (Ken) Munn, Luella (Perley) Elliot, Lottie (Phil) Howlett, and Hazel Clark; and nephew, Cpl. Danny Elliott.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 in Emo, with The Rev. MJ D. Leewis-Kirk, AOJN officiating.
Interment will take place in the Emo Cemetery.
