LUELLA ORINE KATONA

Luella Orine Katona, 96, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born Feb. 7, 1918 in Rainy River, Ont. to Oscar and Elizabeth (Anderson) Brusven.
She was predeceased by her husband, John in 1991; her father and mother; brothers, Ernest, and wife, Lois, and Selmer and wife, Leona; and special friend, Conrad Siraky.
Luella resided in the Morson area in her early years. She later moved to Fort Frances with her family and lived there until her passing.
In her early years, she worked as a cabin girl at various resorts in the Lake of the Woods area. She was a member of the Salvation Army and was recognized on April 4, 2014 for her many hours of service.
She also was an active member of Sister Kennedy Centre and participated in many activities held there.
Mom was a very independent woman and resided in her own home until three years ago, when she moved to Rainycrest. She enjoyed the visits from her family and especially enjoyed seeing her great-grandchildren, who always put a smile on her face.
Mom’s weekly ritual was getting her hair done, going out for lunch with friends, and shopping at Wal-Mart.
Luella was united in marriage on Oct. 20, 1940 to John.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Dorothy, and partner, Ray; and son, Edward, and wife, Margaret.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Tom and partner, Donna, Kevin, Gordon (Andrea), Nicole, Natalie, and Shane (fiancée Joelle); great-grandchildren, Sara and partner, Andrew, Stephen, Jordon, Kyle, Carveth, Paige, Sierra, Peyton, Calin, Bransen, and Amorin; and great-great-granddaughters, Addison and Kaelee.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Lt. Dennis Maybury officiating.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
The pallbearers were her grandsons, Tom Shaw, Kevin Shaw, Gordon Shaw, and Shane Katona
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Rainycrest Long-Term Care.
