Lottie Halvorsen, 88, of Emo, Ont., passed away at the Emo Health Centre in Emo on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003.
She was born March 23, 1915 in Grygla, Mn. to John and Nora Hagen. At a young age, her family moved to the Blackhawk, Ont. area, where they homesteaded.
On July 25, 1938, she married the love of her life, Carl Halvorsen. Together, they raised their family in the Blackhawk-Finland area.
Mom was a loving, caring person who always had a smile and kind word for everyone. Her greatest joy was her 86 family members, and each one felt her love and how special they were to her.
Anyone visiting was served her special homemade fresh buns, bread, and cookies. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and gardening, and was an avid bird watcher.
She is survived by six sons, Dave (Jan), Ron (Julie), Ed (Laurel), and Jim (Charlene), all of Fort Frances, Ont., Ted (Debbie) of Finland, Ont., and Gary (Lydia) of Dryden, Ont.; and four daughters, Donna (Leonard) Strom of Atikokan, Ont., Evelyn (Howard) Roen of Stratton, Ont., and Faye (Keith) McCready and Carol (Erwin) Pietila of Dryden, Ont.
Also surviving are 27 grandchildren, Meredith (Kevin) Croswell, Angela Halvorsen, Len (Leslie) Strom, Danny (Tammi) Strom, Doug Strom, Kenny (Brenda) Roen, Tom (Tracey) Roen, Duane (Tracy) Roen, Kevin (Tara) Roen, Deanne (Brad) Wendland, Debbie (Darren) Sheridan, Lisa (Jeff) Lough, Michael and Kristen Halvorsen, Sue (Scott) Moody, Don (Melanie) McCready, David (Janelle) Pietila, Tim Pietila, Melanie Halvorsen, Gregg Halvorsen, Billy Halvorsen, Bobby Halvorsen, Kimberly (David) Walter, Kerri Halvorsen, Kendra Halvorsen, Cassandra Halvorsen, and Miranda Halvorsen
Also surviving are 25 great-grandchildren, Kelvin, Cameron, and Kailey Croswell, Robin Melanson, Courtney, Jordan, and Christopher Strom, T.J., Brittany, Jessica, Julie, Maygen, Ashley, Dylan, and Matthew Roen, Cody and Kara Wendland, Bobbi Lyn and Tommy Lough, Travis Sheridan, Ben and Will Moody, Alyssa McCready, and Jonah and Lucas Pietila.
Also surviving are two sisters, Myrtle Loveday and Luella Hoskins; two brothers, Ralph and Walter Hagen; one sister-in-law, Martha Hagen; one brother-in-law, Al Halvorsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Halvorsen in 1988; one infant son in 1947; her parents, John and Nora Hagen; one sister, Bella Jewell; five brothers, Lloyd, Earl, Ed, James, and Norman Hagen; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, with Rev. Eileen Bragg officiating. Interment will take place in Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont. at a later date.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 from noon until service time at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ken Roen, Tom Roen, David Pietila, Gregg Halvorsen, Duane Roen, and Kevin Roen.
Honourary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
