Linda Darlene “Morning Star” Indian, 50, of St. Joseph’s Care Group in Thunder Bay, Ont., and formerly of Onigaming First Nation, Ont., passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011.
She was born March 4, 1961 in Emo, Ont. to the late Thomas and Elsie Indian.
Linda grew up at Onigaming First Nation and graduated from Onigaming First Nation high school. She then began pursuing her nursing career by enrolling in the nursing program at Confederation College.
She graduated from the nursing program with her R.N.A. and worked at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont. for many years.
Her passion in caring for the sick and elderly fulfilled her dream.
For leisure, Linda loved knitting and crocheting for her family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her son, Adrian, playing hockey when he was younger, up to and including high school hockey.
She also loved to watch and listen to Adrian play guitar and sing for her.
Linda is survived by her step-dad, Gerald Bruyere of Couchiching First Nation, Ont.; partner, Tom Big George of Thunder Bay, Ont.; son, Adrian (Eileen) Indian of Fort Frances, Ont.; and six grandchildren, Adrian, Ariana, Alayla, Lavina, Kanise, and Andrew.
She also is survived by four brothers, Larry (Ilene) Indian and Tom Indian, both of Onigaming First Nation, Jamie (Debbie) Brown of Strathroy, Ont., and Ernest Bruyere of Couchiching First Nation; one sister, Shirley (Tim) Kampa of Ramsey, Mn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Onigaming First Nation gymnasium. Fr. Francis Puddicherry will officiate, with interment in Onigaming First Nation Cemetery.
A wake will be held on Thursday evening, Oct. 13, 2011 at the Onigaming First Nation gymnasium.
The pallbearers will be Larry Indian, Tom Indian, Adrian Indian, Byron Indian, Bob Indian, and Ernest Indian.
The honourary pallbearers will be Sandra Indian, Donna Indian, Veronica Indian, Virginia Big George, and Verna McDonald.
