Lily Margaret Rathwell was born in Rosser, Man. on March 20, 1912 to John and Margaret Robertson. At the age of 12, she and her family moved to Fort Frances, Ont.
She met her husband, Gerald, there and lived in both Fort Frances and Mine Centre, Ont. for a period of time, subsequently moving to Thunder Bay, Ont. and then settling in Dryden, Ont. in 1954.
Lily and her husband owned and operated Rathwell Lumber until 1966, at this time moving to the Gordon Lake area and finally to Emo, Ont. to retire, sometime later moving back to Dryden to be closer to family.
Family was very important to Lily, and her great-grandchildren in particular were the light of her life. Almost daily, she wanted to know what any of them said or did that day.
In her leisure time, Lily enjoyed the outdoors, especially her beautiful flower garden where she worked many hours pruning, pulling, and trimming.
She was a very independent and strong woman who lived life to the fullest. On Jan. 25, 2004 she passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
Lily is survived by her son, Dennis (Judy); six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald in 1981; an infant daughter, Geraldine; a son, James in 1989; one brother; and six sisters.
She’ll be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
