Lillian Sarah Becker, 96, passed away peacefully in the CCU at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. on Monday, Sept. 6, 1999.
Lillian was born July 26, 1903 in South Shields, England to the late William and Sarah Carter. On Dec. 10, 1925, she was united in marriage to Hosea (Harry) Dorwin Becker.
She was predeceased by her husband on Feb. 28, 1965; one sister, Lydia Cook Terry; brother, William Carter; and nephew, Lanny Flinders.
Lillian is survived by children, Dorothy I. (Allan) Hayes, Glen W. (Carol) Becker, and Willa S. (Breck) Chernaski; 10 grandchildren, Sharolyn, Shawn (Dawn), Mark, Forrest, and Todd (Sandra) Hayes, all of Fort Frances, and Leigh (Laurie), Mark, Kevin, and Cameron (Teri) Becker, and Clarinda Ruiz, all of Toronto, Ont.; great-grandchildren, Tanya D. (Kelly) Cunningham of Emo, Ont., Brittany, Cale, and Connor Hayes of Fort Frances, Chad and Kristen Hayes of Fort Frances, Kyle and Danielle Becker of Toronto, and Jason and A.J. (Nickerson) Becker of Toronto; and great-great-grandchildren, Daniel and Rachel Cunningham of Emo.
She also is survived by one sister, Irene Flinders of Fort Frances; niece, Virginia Cousineau of Fort Frances; nephews, Lynn Terry of Dryden, Ont., and Orlow and Kerry (Barb) Flinders of Fort Frances; great nieces, Patricia (Clinton) Waldon and Kathryn (Howard) Maunula of Thunder Bay, Melissa Flinders of Fort Frances, and Judy (Blair) Keats of British Columbia; and great nephews, Scott (Dawn) Terry of Dryden, David (Jane) Terry of Sioux Lookout, Ont., Terry (Sharron) Cousineau of Cochenour, Ont., Bill (Marg) Cousineau of Balmertown, Ont., and Clay, Jason, Rory, and Jay Flinders, all of Fort Frances; and many other great nieces and nephews.
Lillian, in her teenage years, worked in Rainy River. She loved music and dances. She was an active member with the McIrvine Women’s Institute and also the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Lillian was devoted to her family and was worshipped in return by all her family for her keen sense of humour, her dedication, and unwavering love.
A celebration of life service was conducted by Rev. Patrick Playfair at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances on Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999.
Organist and soloist Lee-Anne Maraj handled the music beautifully! A very thoughtful, very touching tribute was given by Dawn Gushuliak, and a nice tea and lunch was provided at the Knox United Church.
Pallbearers were Shawn and Todd Hayes, Orlow and Kerry Flinders, Leigh Becker, and Kelly Cunningham.
Interment was Monday, Sept. 13, 1999 in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Lillian will be sadly missed by her family and friends!
