Lewis Jarrett “Jerry” Pauley Jr., 55, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Friday, March 4, 2011.
Jerry was born Dec. 13, 1955 in Charleston, and was a graduate of George Washington High School class of 1974.
Following graduation, Jerry and his wife moved to Finland, Ont. to fulfill his dream of getting back to nature, living off the land, and building Finnish-style log structures.
Jerry also learned to be a stone mason, carpenter, and cabinet-maker. He also was a licensed guide to big game.
Jerry and his partner, Dan, purchased logs to build their log structures, with many steps from the freshly-cut logs to the finished products made to the customer’s order.
Jerry lived out in the bush, and enjoyed the wonders and beauty of nature. To see bald eagles flying overhead. That your closest neighbours are black bear, deer, moose, wolves, beaver, and partridge was a great satisfaction.
Jerry said no church could ever make you feel any closer to God than being out in God’s creation.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice-fishing, boating, trapping, hockey, and visiting with his friends. He planted a large garden and canned the product of his labour. Picking wild blueberries, and canning blueberries for pancakes in the winter. To make filling for blueberry pies, and open a jar for pies until next blueberry season.
Jerry’s blueberry jam was very tasty.
Several years ago, Jerry returned to Charleston. He loved his family unconditionally, especially his grandchildren.
Now he is in Heaven, pain-free, with all his friends and family who passed before him. He will be missed.
Jerry is survived by his parents, Lewis J. and Sharon Pauley; brother, John Matthew Pauley; son, Joshua Ernest Pauley and grandson, Gage Owen Pauley; and son, Matthew Mayer Pauley, daughter-in-law, Merri, and granddaughters, Kassandra Rose and Mattie Lynn Pauley.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 4 p.m. at the Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Lyons officiating.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service.
