LETITIA LOUISE BRUCE

Letitia Louise Bruce died Feb. 15, 2013 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN.
“Tish” was born Oct. 2, 1924 in Carroll, IA to Frank and Bertha Sullivan. Her family moved to Bertram, MN where she attended school through Grade 11. She graduated from St. Francis HS in Little Falls, MN in 1942.
During WWII, Tish worked for the Mechanical Division of General Mills in the Twin Cities which manufactured hardware for the military.
After WWII, she moved to Int’l Falls to be with her mother and siblings.
She married Milton Olson on Sept 10, 1948. Together they had two children, Greg and Neil.
Tish began working in the post office in 1959. She married Jim Bruce on Feb. 16, 1963, and Jim adopted her two sons. Tish took great pride in her job and serving the public.
She made many friends and even met several celebrities while working there.
She seemed to know everyone, and was a very familiar face at the window.
She retired after 25 years on the job in 1984.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and stamp and coin collecting. Tish and Jim moved from South Falls to the banks of Littlefork River in 1973.
They both enjoyed life and spent summers fishing on Lake of the Woods and gardening at their dream home.
Together, they enjoyed nearly 22 years of wintering in Yuma, AZ where they made many new friends and traveled throughout the southwest.
They also made trips to Scotland, England, Mexico, Hawaii, and Canada.
Tish moved to Ridgeview Care in late 2008 to recover from some health problems. She moved to the River’s Edge Villa in mid-2010 where she remained until her death.
Tish truly loved living at the Villa, and received excellent care from the staff. She especially enjoyed interacting with the other “seniors.”
Tish was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Milton Olson and Jim Bruce, and two brothers “Jack” Sullivan and Jim Prozinski.
She is survived by her sons, Greg (Donna) Bruce of Fosston, MN and Neil (Rose) Bruce of Red Wing, MN; brother Robert “Gene” Sullivan of Int’l Falls; sister Betty Sullivan of Prescott Valley, AZ; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Ron (Cordy) Olson of Int’l Falls, and Stewart (Darlene) Bruce of Emo, Ontario; sisters-in-law Karen (Dick) Hedtke and Anna Mae Sullivan both of Int’l Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a hardworking, wise, loving mother and wife and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.
A memorial mass is planned for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the St. Thomas Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
If so desired, in memoriam donations in Tish’s memory are preferred to the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, MN, 116 8th Ave. SE, Little Falls, MN 56345, or to the donor’s choice.
