With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Leonard Morrison, 78, formerly of Big Grassy First Nation, on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River, Ont.
Leonard was born on Dec. 12, 1938 on Miles Island (Lake of the Woods) to Thomas and Janet Morrison.
He enjoyed hunting, logging, and fishing, and he guided for many of the camps on Lake of the Woods throughout his life.
Leonard will be greatly missed by his children, Elaine (Leon) Jourdain, Aaron Morrison, Glenn Archie, Daryl Archie, Tim Archie (Teresa Andy), and Deana Archie; grandchildren, Andrea, Courtney, Chris, Kimberly, Kaara, Taylor, Alissa, Erin, Raven, Hilary, Glenn Jr., Nicholas, Dakota, Jannelle, Karma, Tyler, Reese, and R.J.; and great-grandchildren, Kai, Kael, Maddox, Mila, Matai, Riley, Alexis, Harmony, Harlow, Kaida, Della-Rose, Leighton, Bodhi, Carter, and Melena.
He also is survived by his sisters, Linda Snyder, Carlene (Charlie) Steiner, Louise Morrison, and Sheri (Herman) Burgos; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Janet; and sisters, Sarah Big George, Edith Jack, Mary Indian, and Marie Tuesday.
A traditional wake was held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 4 p.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall, followed by a traditional service on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 10 a.m., with Elder Ron Indian-Mandamin officiating.
Interment will take place in the Big Grassy First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Kevin Tuesday, Robert Indian, Wallace Detweiler, Bucky Morrison, Nathan Jack, Carl Big George Jr., and Jeff Morrison.
The honourary pallbearers were Reggie Morrison, Rocky Moen, Joseph Andy Jr., Robert Handorgan, Bill Morrison, Robert Morrison, and Jim Morrison.
