It is with deep sorrow that the family of Leonard Douglas Hill, lovingly known as Monk, announces his sudden passing on Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre.
Leonard will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, very proud father and supportive grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His warmth, legendary smile, humour, hearty laugh and gift of gab touched all who knew him.
Len was born on July 15, 1947, and was raised in Fort Frances. He lived his entire life in the Rainy River District. He married his wife and best friend Linda Avis on August 14, 1971, and together they shared an amazing 53 years of marriage that was filled with love, laughter and adventure.

Following high school Len pursued his career as a dedicated and loyal papermaker in the local mill and remained there until his retirement. He made lasting friendships with many of his co-workers.
Len truly had a zest for life and was so proud of his home on the lake where they entertained and hosted a multitude of special events over the years. He thought he was the luckiest person to own a home on Rainy Lake and took great pride in the day to day upkeep.
Following his retirement, Len and Linda were fortunate to become “Winter Texans” and enjoyed spending time together and making lasting friendships at their happy place in Tropic Star.
Len will be lovingly remembered by his wife Linda; his sons Christopher (Alexis), Bradley (Nicole); grandchildren Gavin, Duncan, Tatum, Griffin and Kendall. He is also survived by his sister Gwen; in-laws Sharon Angus, Linda Hill; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Florence Hill; father and mother in-law Sid Avis and wife Virginia; stepfather in-law John Reid Sr.; brothers Lester and Darrell Hill and brothers-in-law Blake Beange, Don Angus and Ted and wife Connie Avis; nephews Kevin Beange and Mark Angus; great-nephew Joey Angus. He will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
If you were fortunate enough to meet Leonard you had a friend for life. Leonard truly lived life to the fullest and inspired those around him to do the same. He will be greatly missed. A celebration of Len’s life will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Fund (www.healthsciencefoundation.ca/cancer-donate) or the charity of their choice. Arrangements entrusted to Northridge Funeral Home Ltd.
