Leonard Bernard Roy, 85, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010.
Leonard was born July 6, 1925 in Fort Frances to the late George and Eva Roy.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He later worked as heavy duty mechanic on construction sites across Canada and the U.S.
He was united in marriage to Karina Kirsila in 1947.
As a young man, Leonard played semi-pro hockey as a goalie for many teams in both Fort Frances, International Falls, and Sioux City. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances and the VFW in International Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Karina, of Fort Frances, Ont; his children, Diana (Bob) Coulombe of Thunder Bay, Ont., Michael Roy (Tina Wilson) of Fort Frances, Ont., Donna (Razvan) Sima of Calgary, Alta., Lori Pederson (James Hourie) of Smithers, B.C., and Susann Boivin (Larry Norton) of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Jeff Gaylord, Michael Roy, Tammie Roy, and Rene Boivin; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Eiden of Grande Rapids.
A memorial service will be held Monday Sept. 13, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. The family welcomes his friends to join them.
