LEONA ARMIT

Leona Armit, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007 at her residence.
Leona was born Nov. 18, 1908 in New Richmond, Que. to the late Joseph and Nellie Savoie.
Leona moved with her family to Fort Frances when she was 16. A few years later while working in Fort Frances, she met Alexander Armit, whom she later was united in marriage to on Nov. 18, 1926.
Following marriage, she was a proud mother raising her family.
She enjoyed crocheting, and working as a seamstress making clothes. She also loved music, dancing whenever possible, and being surrounded and loved by her family.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, where she attended church in earlier years.
Leona will be dearly missed by her loving family and many friends that knew her throughout the years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Armit, on Jan. 19, 1976; one daughter, Betty McBride; one son-in-law, John Wickstrom; two daughters-in-law, Blanche Armit and Rosalyn Armit; three great-grandchildren; and by all of her brothers and sisters.
Leona is survived by her three daughters, Dodee and husband, Ron Peterson, of International Falls, Mn., and Joan and husband, Bill Krukoski, and Lynn and husband, Jack Armstrong, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; son-in-law, Robert McBride of International Falls, Mn.; three sons, David Armit of Rush City, Mn., Raymond Armit and wife, Leslie, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Richard Armit of Dryden, Ont.; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Fr. Francis Pudicherry will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be her grandsons, Larry Armit, Ed Armit, Rod Armit, Brian Armit, Barry Armit, John-Paul Armstrong, John Krukoski, and Pat McBride.
