It is with great sadness that the family of the beloved Leon Charles Bertin, 68, of Marathon, Ont., announces his passing on Aug. 3, 2001 at his home.
Leon was born in Athoville, N.B. on April 11, 1933 to the late Lea and Larry Bertin. When he was 17, he moved to Marathon to work in the American Can paper mill. He became a second-class stationary engineer in the steam plant and worked there for 33 years, retiring in 1996.
He was married to Marie Tiboni in 1957.
Dad was a very special man, he was always there when someone needed a helping hand. He was generous to a fault. He liked to hunt with his stepson in the fall and enjoyed fishing, golfing, curling, bowling, and he played a mean game of darts.
He was a very dear friend, father, brother, uncle, and grandpa, and will be greatly missed by all of us.
Leon was predeceased by his parents, Lea and Larry Bertin; infant sister, Edna; brother, Albert of Athoville, N.B.; sister, Irene and husband, Joe Doucette, of Azilda, Ont.; and nephew, Rick Bertin of Marathon, Ont.
He is survived by his daughter, Carla, husband, Ludger, and granddaughter, Tiffany Rittau, of Devlin, Ont.; son, Kevin and granddaughter, Hayley, of Vegreville, Alta., and Roy and wife, Kathryn, of Victoria, B.C. and grandsons, Ronnie and Brian Bertin; stepson, Dan and wife, Arlene Furyk, of Rainy River, Ont.; and special friend, Gail Joseph of Marathon, Ont.,
Also surviving are his many brothers and sisters, Larry and wife, Phyllis, of Thunder Bay, Ont., Hubert and wife, Ruth, of London, Ont., Jerry (Gerard) and wife, Yvette, of Athoville, N.B., Jackie (Jacqueline) and husband, Garnet MacGarvie, of Hanmer, Ont., and May-Dora and husband, Jerry Young, of Baie-Comeau, Que.
It was dad’s wish that there would be no service.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
