It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lenart Nelson on Nov. 14, 2009.
Born on Feb. 14, 1943, Lenart worked in the iron mines in Atikokan, Ont., then moved to British Columbia in 1972. He worked in Port Alberni in the pulp and paper industry.
He also served as a city alderman, and became involved in social and union work.
Lenart then worked for the Canadian Labour Congress until his retirement in 2008.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Shelly Appleton (Ray) and Jodi Winslade; grandsons, Christopher Appleton, and Cody and Brandon Winslade; his mother, Emma; and stepfather, Albert Hansen.
Also surviving are his sister, Sylvia (Sid) Barkman and brother, Leland Nelson (Stephanie); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Henning Nelson; sister, Agnes Nelson; and grandparents, Swan and Agnes Norland.
A memorial service will be held in Ontario at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
