It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather Lenard W. Moen, age 79, on March 8, 2024, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.

Lenard was born in 1944 in Rainy River, Ont., to Roy and Margaret (Ricci) Moen.

Early on Lenard was employed as a mechanic in Morson at Dalseg’s and R.A. Gill Ltd. and later self-employed at Morson Outboard and Automotive for 30 years. Spring was always a busy time making sure boats were ready for opening of fishing for his Canadian and American customers.

Quality time with the family was spent building and flying kites. Lenard developed a passion for R.C. model airplanes and was a member of the Rainy River Internationals. Len also became interested in Hamm Radio, becoming an active amateur radio operator with call sign VA3 HBR and a member of the Rainy Lake Amateur Radio club.

Due to health issues, Lenard and his wife moved to Rainy River. It was there that Len joined the Rainy River Fix-It club where he enjoyed woodworking and visiting with friends. Weekly tea sessions were a favourite with his brother Doug and his uncle Lenard Ricci.

Lenard is survived by his wife JoAnn (Dalseg) of 57 years; daughter Beverly Moen (Darwin); daughter-in-law Tracey (Selman) Moen; and grandchildren Justin (Michelle), Shauna, Kendra Moen and Emma and Carson Noga. Len is also survived by his brother Douglas (Donna) Moen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lenard was predeceased by his parents Roy Moen and Margaret Moen Peterson and her husband John Peterson; his son Lenard R. Moen in 2022; and sister Kari Jewett.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

A Service of Remembrance will be held to celebrate Lenard’s life on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Rainy River.
