LEMPI ELLEN HAKE

Lempi Hake, 85, of Rainycrest Home for Aged, 550 Osbourne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence Monday, Nov. 23, 1998.
She was born on Dec. 7, 1912 in Fort Frances to Johannes (John) and Serafia Takkunen. Lempi attended Miscampbell School, and was well versed in Finnish, of which she spoke and wrote very well.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed cross-country skiing, swimming, and fishing.
On March 8, 1943, she was united in marriage to Oliver Hake and following their marriage, they moved to Burriss, Ont., where she farmed along with her husband for many years. On the farm, Lempi always had a wonderful raspberry patch, and enjoyed her many years gardening and canning.
She also did beautiful sewing, knitting, and other handiwork. Later in life, she was a caregiver to her mother and husband for many years. She was a wonderful aunt, who enjoyed her nieces and nephews.
Lempi moved in with her niece, Irene, in Crozier in January, 1993, and resided there until July, 1998 when she became a resident of Rainycrest.
She was predeceased by her father, Johannes (John), in 1973, and mother, Serafia, in 1980; her husband, Oliver, in 1981; one sister, Aino Hill, in 1993; and three brothers-in-law, Nick Hill in 1989, Paul Hake in 1972, and George Hake in 1990.
Lempi is survived by one sister-in-law, Marie Hake of Minneapolis, Mn.: two nieces, Irene Hill-Haver and husband, Norman, of Crozier, Ont., and John Hake and wife, Shirley, of California; grand nieces and grand nephews, Candace and Trista Hill, Ryan, Neil and fiancée Terri George, Jennifer, Kristina, and Sean Herdman, Jay Hake and wife, Lisa, of Eden Prairie, Mn., and Missy and husband, Mark Larson, of Minneapolis, Mn.; great-grand nephew, Cooper Larson of Minneapolis, Mn.; several cousins in Cloquet, Mn.; and relatives in Finland, Europe.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Brian Keffer officiated, with interment in Burriss Cemetery in Burriss.
Visitation was held Wednesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers were Dave Gregory, Bill Brant, Ralph Hill, Arlan Hahkala, Edward Hill and Aarne Hahkala.
Honourary pallbearers were Marg Nelson, Gertie Kurronen, Armas Hahkala, Sam Koski, Arnie Lahti, Arthur Mattson and Arnold Haver.
