LEMMITTY LAMPI

On Oct. 25, 2003, surrounded by family, Lemmitty Tyyne Lampi (nee Halme) passed away in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born April 4, 1912 in Nipigon, Ont. to Hilma and Jusssi Halme. Lemmitty was educated in Nipigon and Port Arthur, Ont., and attended teacher’s college in North Bay, Ont.
She met Henry Lampi while teaching in Finland, Ont. and they were married Dec. 27, 1935. They resided there until his death, and she moved to Fort Frances in 1981.
As a teacher for more than 50 years, Lemmitty touched the lives of thousands of students and staff at Mather Potts No. 9, No. 13, and Blackhawk schools, and the Scandinavian Multicultural Society.
She loved knowledge and to spend time with people from whom she could learn. Her hobbies included gardening, knitting, and attending auctions and garage sales.
She leaves to remember her brother, Sulo (Jean); sister-in law, Kay; daughter, Elvira (Frank); sons, Ed (Florence) and Heikki (Laverne); grandchildren, Larry, Carrie (Doug), Julie (Stephen), Will (Patti), Gordon (Kathy), Vernon (Odette), Angela (Ken), Carla (Alan), Tim (Sherrie), Dianne (Ken), and Jackie (Chad); great-grandchildren, Robert, Sean, Patrick, Jillian, Carly, Crystal, John, Angela, Melissa, Billy, Tianna, Kirk, Dawson, and Kendyn; and many cherished nephews and nieces.
She also will be remembered by extended family members in Canada, the United States, and Finland (Europe).
She was predeceased by her sisters, Impi and Audrey; brother, Toivo; and granddaughters, Rhonda and Robin.
A fond farewell to the staff, residents, and special visitors to Rainycrest and La Verendrye Hospital.
Cremation has taken place.
Friends, students, and colleagues are all invited to share a memorial service with the family on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances.
A luncheon will follow.
