Leila Hele, 80, of 433 Third St. W., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Saturday, May 31, 2003 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
She was born Dec. 21, 1922 in Emo, Ont. to the late Charles and Renie Brigham. Leila grew up in Emo.
On Dec. 26, 1940, she was united in marriage to Marvin Hele. Following their marriage, they moved to Nestor Falls, Ont., where they raised their family.
Leila and Marvin remained in Nestor Falls until his retirement, and then moved to Emo. In 1996, Leila and Marvin moved to Fort Frances, where they had lived since.
Leila is survived by her husband, Marvin Hele of Fort Frances, Ont.; two daughters, Elaine and husband, Terry Clifford, of Nestor Falls, Ont., and Linda Stenvall of Calgary, Alta.; three grandchildren, Derek Stenvall of Calgary, Alta., Jennifer Hele of Dryden, Ont., and Laura Hele of Devlin, Ont.; and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are six sisters, Shirley King of Fort Frances, Ont., Elsie Skinner of Emo, Ont., Lou and husband, Joe Cayou, of International Falls, Mn., Evelyn and husband, Herman Loveday, of Emo, Ont., Ruby McDonald of Emo, Ont., and Sylvia Hyatt of Fort Frances, Ont.; one brother, Herb Brigham of Edmonton, Alta.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Brian Hele; two sisters, Patricia (Pat) McDonald and Dorothy Wilson; and three brothers, William (Billy), Marvin, and Melford Brigham.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Emo. Rev. Frances Flook officiated, with interment in Emo Cemetery in Emo.
Friends visited prior to the service Wednesday afternoon at Knox United Church in Emo.
Pallbearers were Andy Brigham, Brent Hyatt, James Gibson, Bob Wepruk, Keith Hele, and Bruce Brigham.
