LAWRENCE JOSEPH POLLARD

Pollard, Lawrence

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lawrence Joseph Pollard, 85, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont., and formerly of Emo, Ont., on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances with his family by his side.
Lawrence was born Feb. 1, 1932 in North Branch, Ont. to Joseph and Jeanette Pollard (nee Perkins).
He was united in marriage to Ann Tibold on July 15, 1955.
Lawrence attended school in North Branch and lived there until he moved to Emo in 1976. He logged wood, drove school bus for many years, and worked as a small motor mechanic.
He retired at age 52 from Tompkins Hardware and spent his retirement enjoying many hobbies-carpentry, painting, walking, reading, fishing, hunting, and spending time at the cabin.
Lawrence was a very gentle and kind-hearted man with a “sweet tooth.” He also was a jack of all trades and always available to lend a helping hand.
Family was the focus of his life and he thoroughly relished spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a familiar sight at the arena enjoying and watching his grandsons playing hockey.
Lawrence was an excellent conversationalist and story-teller, and rarely missed coffee time at the local coffee house.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ann, of Emo, Ont.; son, Daniel Pollard (Susan) of Emo, Ont.; daughter, Carol Pollard of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Fort McMurray, Alta.; six grandchildren, Melanie Halvorsen (Jeff Bottomley), Greggory Halvorsen (Stephanie Schutte), David Pollard (Melanie), Joshua Pollard (Kaylie Lundgren), Joey Busch, and Kay-Leigh Busch; and four great grandchildren, Brenna Pollard, and Madeleine, Elena, and Rosalind Bottomley.
Lawrence also is survived by his siblings, Chancellor Pollard (Elsie), Clarence Pollard (Arlene), and Donald Pollard (Marie); sister-in-law, Della Pollard; brothers-in-law, Joe Tibold (Laverne), Art Tibold (Jackie), and Ernie Tibold (Paula); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Jeanette; siblings, Gladys, David, Eugene, Laverne, Clifford, Gary, and Helen; and parents-in-law, Gertrude and Joseph Tibold.
Family and friends were received on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, followed by a funeral service on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Ralph Fluit officiating.
Interment will take place in Pine Ridge Cemetery in North Branch at a later date
The pallbearers will be his grandsons, David and Joshua Pollard, Gregg Halvorsen, and Joey Busch; and close family friends, Shane and Rylan McQuaker.
The honourary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Melanie Halvorsen and Kay-Leigh Busch; great-granddaughters, Madeleine, Elena, and Rosalind Bottomley and Brenna Pollard; and granddaughters-in-law, Melanie Pollard, Stephanie Schutte, and Kaylie Lundgren.
