Lawrence Gibbins, 70, of Big Island First Nation, Ont., passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at the Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora, Ont.
He was born May 3, 1935 in Morson, Ont. to Alexander and Katie Gibbins.
He has lived in the Morson area all of his life, where he worked as a carpenter, guide, and trapper. He also enjoyed fishing, going for walks, watching sports, especially wrestling and hockey, and spending time with his family.
Lawrence leaves behind his children, Clarence (Lorraine Kirkrude) of Morson, Ont., John (Darlene) of Big Island First Nation, Ont., Virginia (Patrick) Handorgan of Big Island First Nation, Ont., Laura Major (Vernon Tuesday) of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont., Cheryl of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont., Larry of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont.; their mother, Victoria Gibbins of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by his brother, Lenny (Roberta); sisters, Diane (Brian) Major, Rita Andy, and Janet (Lawrence) Larson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; grandson, Jeff Kirkrude; and brothers, James Gibbins, Harry Gibbins, Alex Gibbins Jr., Mike Gibbins, and Clifford Gibbins.
A wake will be held Friday, July 29, 2005 at 4 p.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Hall.
A traditional funeral service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005 in the morning. Elder Frank Green will officiate, with interment in the Morson Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Jeff Morrison, Clarence Gibbins Jr., Albert George, Jules Gibbins, Melvin Morrison, and Touchan Fiddler.
