LAWRENCE EVERETT CARTER

Lawrence Everett Carter passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, in Fort Frances, Ontario, surrounded by his beloved daughters and family. He was born on March 8, 1947, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to the late Maxine McNeill, and George Carter.

As a young child, Lawrence was joined by four siblings and experienced several moves before the family settled in Thunder Bay. It was there he met the love of his life, Judith, and the two were married on May 6, 1972. They shared 37 wonderful years of marriage before Judith’s passing in 2009.

Lawrence was a passionate athlete from a young age, playing baseball often – even without a glove – and carrying that love of sports throughout his life. He passed that passion on to his three daughters, coaching their baseball and basketball teams, teaching them how to catch, and cheering from the stands as often as he could.

Later in life, he introduced his grandson Zac to the game of golf, creating cherished memories on the course. One of his proudest roles was being an “uber driver” for his grandchildren, a title he held with great pride and joy.

Lawrence is survived by daughters: Rebecca (Robert) Tolen, Hannah Carter (Dave Allchin) and Rachel Carter (Brad Rydoell); his grandchildren Zachary Tolen (Kailey Croswell), Abigail (Chandler) Pollard, Kayla and Kassandra Michl, Alexander Carter, Madelyn and Benjamin Allchin, and Faith and Charlie Rydoell; and great-grandson Bennett Taylor.

He is also survived by his sister Diane (Gary) Weiss; brother Derek (Dorothy) Carter; mother-in-law Marjorie Smeeth; sisters-in-law Patti (Maurice) DeGagne, Cathy (Randy) DeGagne, and Beverly McCoy; brother-in-law Donald (Sylvia) Smeeth; his long time friend Peter Sas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lawrence is predeceased by his beloved wife Judith; his parents Maxine and George Carter; stepmother Dorothy Carter; father-in-law Bertram Smeeth; his sister Pamela Carter; brother Randy Carter; brother-in-law Micheal McCoy; and nephews Clinton Carter and Ryan DeGagne.

Lawrence will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his commitment to sport, and his unwavering presence in the lives of those he loved.
