Laurie (Laurence) LaRoche (nee Vien) passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born June 13, 1920 in Wakaw, Sask., and moved to the Labroquerie farm in 1934 with all 13 of her siblings.
She was married to Alphonse LaRoche on June 22, 1939 and was happily married for 71 years.
They had five children, 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Laurie worked at La Verendrye Hospital for 24 years as a nursery nurse, during which she enjoyed every moment that she had spent with the newborns.
She also had many talents, from knitting sewing, and crafts to the ability to cook like no other. Her wit and sense of humour will be greatly missed.
Laurie is survived by her loving husband, Alphonse; daughters, Lea Kroplin (Maurice), Pauline Wilson (Ardon), Irene Degagne (Wally), and Sandra Selin (Jake); her only son, Roger (Lynne); sister, Sally Samson (Bobby); brother, Emilien Vien (Lucille); brothers-in-law, David, Francois (Marie), Albert, and Leon (Marie Rose); sisters-in-law, Carmine and Elaine; and all of her many grandchildren and great-/great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by sons-in-law, Philipe Degagne and Richard Selin; and many of her brothers and sisters, as well as brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren, all of whom she was proud.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends can make in memoriam donations to Rainycrest Long-Term Care or the Alzheimer’s Society.
