With heavy hearts, we, the family of Laurie Janet Ann Kielczewski, announce her passing on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Laurie was born to Paul and Margaret on Oct. 7, 1953 in Fort Frances, Ont., and it was there she began her love for the great outdoors and her passion for fishing.
Laurie graduated from Fort High and later graduated from the Confederation College Social Service Worker program with honours.
She was employed with the City of Thunder Bay until moving to Edmonton, Alta. in 1995. She obtained work with the Alberta government in 1997 and there she met many beloved co-workers and even better friends.
Laurie’s passion in life was her family and friends, with fishing following close behind. Some of her most cherished times were spent at Canyon Creek with family and friends and her fishing rod.
She is in every thought of her three daughters, Stacey (Trevor), Riley, and Kelly (Shane), and her six grandkids, Alyssa, Dereck, Shelby, Meghan, Terri-Lynn, and Tyler.
Also surviving is her partner of 20 years, Rick Sutherland; as well as siblings, Pat (Vera), Keith (Elizabeth), Gail (Bill) Shields, Raymond (Dee Ann), Bonnie (Bernie) Limoges, Deeder, and Shawn; and soul sisters, Trudy Christian and Valerie Verschaer.
Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who all held a special place in her heart.
Laurie was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Margaret; brothers, Harvey, Leon, and Kevin; and sister, Barb, and brother in- law, Terry.
Cremation has taken place, with internment to take place in Fort Frances.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute of Alberta or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
