God Brought an Angel Home.
Laura Marie Donaldson (nee Shaw), 94, a long-time resident of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances.
She was born in Barnhart, Ont. on Jan. 2, 1917. She moved to Fort William, Ont. as a young child, where she received her education to become a teacher.
She taught in the Fort William area, then later in Fort Frances, ending her career at F.H. Huffman School in 1969.
She married Morris Donaldson on June 29, 1943.
Mom will be missed by her sons, Paul (Sharon) and Steven (Nadine), and daughter, Leslie (Terry) Mills. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Jeff, Lyle (Kyley), Kristin (Stephen), Mark (Gale), Wade, and Steven (Jennifer); nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sister, Margret (Gus) Gaunt; brothers, Glen Shaw and Allan (Alice) Shaw; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Morris, in 2000; parents, Harvey and Lula Shaw; sisters, Florence MacKenzie, Greta Gerig, and Ramona Storey; sisters-in-law, Virginia McKay and Vera Shaw; and brothers-in-law, George MacKenzie, Elmer Gerig, Mel Storey, and Bill McKay.
Mom was a member of RTO, Knox United Church, U.C.W., and the Teachers Vintage Group. She also enjoyed playing Bridge, travelling, and the many years spent at their cabin on Jackfish Lake.
A celebration of Laura’s life will be held Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Hallett Hall at Rainycrest in Fort Frances, with Rev. Barb Miller officiating.
Interment at Burriss Cemetery.
