Lana Joan Mainville was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer on March 12, 2019. She fought the fight of her life, swinging hard the whole way, but it is with great sadness that her family announces her fight ended on Dec. 8, 2019, at La Verendrye Hospital.
Lana is predeceased by her daughter, Sara Joan; dad, Ron Mainville; brother, Bobby Mainville; and best friend aka “hubby,” Kenny Rousseau.
She is survived by her daughter, Jena Thomasson; mother, Joan Mainville; brother, Blake Mainville; sister-in-law, Leeann Johnson-Mainville; nieces, Jillian (Jeff) Cridland and Joleigh Mainville; lifelong friends/chosen family, Lori Rousseau, Bugsy Morrisseau, Sandra Windego, Joanne Bruyere, Catherine Bruyere, Laura Bruyere, and David (Ashley) Rousseau; half-sisters, Whitney Guimond and Amanda Guimond; her beloved granddog, Macie; as well as countless other friends and relatives of the Mainville, Copenace, and Thomasson families.
Lana worked in child welfare for a number of years before accepting employment with her own community, Couchiching First Nation, in the Ontario Works program. She truly enjoyed her job as the Ontario Works Employment & Training Worker and cared about her clients who she strived to help achieve their goals.
Lana was born on Sept. 3, 1965, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She had a love for classic rock and the colour purple. All she wanted for Christmas this year was a purple tree which she received two of prior to her passing.
A service will be held at the Couchiching Bingo Palace on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, beginning at 11 a.m. The family asks that any donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
